Abstract

Aging related diseases are on the rise, due to an aging population. Aging vasculature leads to pathologies like stroke, Alzheimer’s and cardiovascular diseases. Beta Hydroxy butyrate (β-HB) has been identified to have anti-aging effects on vascular system. This keto body predominantly inhibits both stress-induced premature senescence and replicative senescence via p53 independent mechanism. β-Hb has the potential of decreasing the burden of age-related diseases. To increase its quantity either by keto diet, or a pharmaceutical pill, further research should be done on both long term and short term effects so that all of its benefit can be appreciated to the fullest.
